The five best places to fish in Ibiza

Ibiza, in particular, is an excellent place to practice this sport, enjoy organized excursions or caste a line in any of its coves along its coasts.

Any corner of the Mediterranean provides an ideal spot for fishing enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby. Ibiza, in particular, is an excellent place to practice this sport, enjoy organized excursions or caste a line in any of its coves along its coasts, provided you have the necessary licence to fish. In fact, the history and culture of Ibiza reflect how fishing once provided many islanders with their livelihood and how the important tradition of fishing was therefore honoured, and continues in the same way, in their homes and establishments.

Ibiza also boasts a number of unique species of fish, particular to the Mediterranean Sea and even some specific to the island itself, such as grouper, el gerret (known to the Spanish as ˝caramel˝), la roja (similar to scorpionfish), mullet, raors (parrotfish), roosterfish or the Mediterranean horse mackerel.

Different types of fishing are enjoyed on the island of Ibiza: recreational fishing, underwater fishing or sport fishing. Like all regions of Spain, Ibiza grants its own fishing licenses and the administration involved in obtaining a licence must be carried out at the Consell d’Eivissa in its Citizen Service Office, located on Avenida de España 49, first floor, from 9am to 2pm, from Monday to Friday.

In this article we review some of the best places for fishing enthusiasts:

  1. Talamanca Beach

Talamanca beach is located two kilometres from the city of Ibiza and is one of the longer beaches in Ibiza, which together with its curved shape makes it a great place for fishing. Depending on the season, it is even possible to fish squid in this bay.

  1. Cala Vedella

Cala Vedella is a very wide beach that, due to being surrounded by mountains, resembles a natural pool and is a fantastic place to fish. Also, in this cove, located in the district of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, there are several cliffs and a great variety of fish.

  1. Cala Gracio

The small beach of Cala Gració is located in the district of Sant Antoni de Portmany. It is 50 meters long and is surrounded by rocks that protect it from the wind. This cove is excellent for various activities including fishing.

  1. Cala de Sant Vicent

For many, Cala Sant Vicent is one of the best places on the island for fishing. In addition to being able to fish with a rod from the coastline, you can find a great variety of marine species here. There are also numerous companies that offer excursions to residents and tourists to go out fishing from a boat.

  1. Cala Conta

Cala Conta beach provides a beautiful landscape and is one of the busiest beaches in summer. However, during the winter months it is perfect for fishing, so you will often see early-morning fishermen there trying to get a good catch to take home.

All of these fishing locations have small fisherman’s huts that provide the best marine setting to allow you to enjoy the full fisherman experience.
