Organic farming in Ibiza is a booming sector and therefore there are many restaurants, hotels and supermarkets on the island that support and promote local and seasonal products.

If you are going to visit a fruit and vegetable market or try one of the delicious menus at any of the hundreds of establishments open on the island, we recommend you try delicacies such as watermelons, potatoes, figs or tomatoes of Ibizan origin.

Watermelon is one of our favourite desserts, due to its flavour and water content, which makes it a highly hydrating and healthy product on Ibiza’s hot summer days. The island’s watermelons also have a solid, crunchy texture and stand out for their characteristic aroma. They are one of the most highly exported fruits internationally and can be easily recognised thanks to their labelling directly at source by every farmer on the island.

Another of our star products is the Ibizan potato, which has its own distinct characteristics that distinguish it from other potatoes on the market. The Ibizan potato stands out mainly for its red skin and yellow flesh and is the ideal accompaniment for the island’s fish or meat. This variety of tuber has an extraordinary capacity to absorb flavours, while maintaining an excellent texture, and has been cultivated for more than one hundred years. Its production has recovered and increased in recent years as a commitment to the future of the island’s countryside and cuisine.

Figs cannot be left out of the list of organic products from Ibiza that enjoy success on the island every summer. This fruit has been grown on the white island since ancient times and has been a staple of the island’s economy for many years. There are about twenty different known varieties on the Pityusan Islands, Ibiza and Formentera, some of which have come to be considered native, such as the bordissot negre.

Another of the characteristic fruits of the Ibizan countryside is the carob. Its production and consumption have grown exponentially in recent years thanks to its excellent properties and high nutritional value. It is a delicious and healthy food, which in many cases is used to replace cocoa in desserts and other recipes but is also used in products such as bread.  The carob tree can reach up to ten metres in height and is typical of Ibizan fields and croplands.

Other essential products from Ibiza are its tomatoes, peppers, cabbages, strawberries and olive oil, with designation of origin.

Supporting the primary sector not only advocates responsible consumption and the sustainable use of the environment and conservation of the countryside, but also allows us to enjoy flavours and dishes that make every breakfast, lunch or dinner a unique and unforgettable experience.
