The Eivissa Council anticipates the island will absorb roughly €20 million thanks to Mercedes-Benz’s decision to hold a series of global presentations locally. The events began this February and will continue to the end of April. From leasing public facilities like the convention centre and fairground and commissioning early openings at three Platja d’en Bossa hotels to contracting other services such as transport, supply and catering, the automaker is sparing no detail for presentations that, when all is said and done, will draw more than fourteen thousand attendees and staff.
Council officials say the Mercedes-Benz presentations this winter and spring will be a boon to the island’s economy. They also predict enormous potential in promoting Ibiza as a convention destination, a goal that is shared by the Council and the island’s department of tourism.
From 29 January to 3 May, Mercedes-Benz have rented the Ibiza fairground in its entirety, including indoor and outdoor spaces and classrooms for commercial and training initiatives. Exactly 14,060 people from 50 countries are expected to show up for the company’s meetings and training programmes. The gatherings themselves will play out in 37 subgroups of 380 people each. Two hundred training staff and one hundred fifty assemblers will be on hand in addition to the participants themselves. Taken together, it means nearly 50,000 overnight stays in the hotels that have opened expressly for the event.
