The island of Ibiza has a large number of museums and exhibition halls housing everything from the rich history and culture of Ibiza to the most avant-garde and contemporary trends in the world of painting, sculpture, photography, filmmaking and the new arts.
One of the most popular venues is the Museu d’Art Contemporani d’Eivissa, better known as the MACE, located in the walled city of Dalt Vila, which has installations containing elements from different historical periods ranging from the 6th century B.C., with Phoenician Punic constructions, to burials from the Muslim period. This permanent exhibition for the conservation of the island’s heritage and history is accompanied by different forms of artistic expression such as the ‘video collection’, which includes the birth of new technologies, the exhibition of ‘Japanese prints’ in which an annual competition is held to keep abreast of the new trends in Japanese engraving, or the ‘photography collection’.
Another of the most popular places on the island for culture lovers is the P | Art Ibiza Art Gallery, located at Ca Na Negreta on the Santa Eulària des Riu road: a meeting point where artists can exhibit and sell their works. This venue has begun the new season by celebrating its fifth anniversary with an exhibition that will run until the end of January and which brings together the best works by national and international artists who have visited this part of the island. Thus, the promoter of this exhibition space, Patrizia Longarini, has selected iconic works by Xooang Choi, Okuda San Miguel, Carole Feuerman, Carlos Tárdez, Léo Caillard, Miguel Vallinas, Jesús Curia and Sebastián Reig Brau, artists who have exhibited in cities such as Seoul, Barcelona, Madrid and Paris.
The B12 exhibition hall is also one of the most frequently visited places on the island by tourists and residents. It is a gallery that seeks to stand out from the rest of the island’s galleries, with a unique selection combining various disciplines, hosting a variety of exhibitions and events related to the world of fashion, with workshops, concerts or performances in its different spaces: ‘B12 Gallery’, ‘B12 Club’ and ‘B12 Café Concierto’.
Other essential visits for art lovers include venues such as Lune Rouge, in Ibiza city, conceived by the promoter of Cirque du Soleil, Guy Laliberté, Lío Malca’s gallery, La Nave, in the vicinity of Santa Gertrudis and La Nave in Las Salinas, in the heart of the Sant Josep de Sa Talaia salt flats.
Sites such as the gallery of the painter Marta Torres, in Vara de Rey, heart and lung of Ibiza, the exhibition hall of the Club Diario de Ibiza, the Art Café Can Tixedo near San Rafael and the Restaurant El Naranjo in Santa Eulalia, are other places worthy of public recognition.
