Designed by a student of the Escola d’Arts de Ibiza, the island’s booth is inspired by a traditional country house, the paving of Dalt Vila and the beaches of còdols (pebbles).
The Consell d’Eivissa will have an area of 200 square metres at the next Fitur tourist fair, which will take place from 24th to 27th January at the IFEMA exhibition centre in Madrid. In addition, the island will be promoted at the Balearic Islands booth and will be represented in the area specialising in LGTBI tourism, where Ibiza will once again play a leading role, as it has done in recent years, thanks to the Ibiza Gay Pride event.
For the first time, Ibiza’s booth has been designed by a student of the Escola d’Arts de Ibiza, Susana Sevillano, who has taken her inspiration from the Ibizan countryside to create a space that aims to transport its visitors to an authentic country house where there will be a porch with a fig tree, swings and senallons (baskets), as an example of rural craftsmanship. This space will also have a part representing the cobblestone paving of Dalt Vila (the old part of Ibiza city that this year celebrates the 20th anniversary of its proclamation by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site) and a special wall made of còdols, a greyish pebble that covers some of Ibiza’s least known beaches. In this space, the Consell d’Eivissa, the island’s five town councils, and private entities will work to maintain the tourist figures of recent years, and to influence the trend observed in recent seasons, where the number of visitors is maintained or reduced in the central summer months and, on the other hand, increases at the beginning and end of the season. “We have experienced record seasons in recent years and we do not want to decline, but we are aware that the figures are difficult to maintain,” explains the president of the Consell d’Eivissa, Vicente Torres, who has announced that the promotion will focus on products such as cuisine, nature, landscapes, wellness tourism and, for the first time in Fitur, wedding tourism. “Ibiza is a great destination for weddings, both religious and civil, and even to celebrate the increasingly popular non-weddings,” said President Torres, who added that, in this regard, “the Consell has made the effort of compiling all the regulations of the different municipalities in this regard in order to publish a practical guide that will allow future brides and grooms to celebrate their wedding on the island.
During the four days of Fitur, Ibiza will promote, through presentations, its calendar of sports, cultural events, heritage items and routes and projects funded by the Balearic Sustainable Tourism Tax. In addition, throughout the week, there will be cultural, family and culinary activities, with an open kitchen where a food and wine tasting session will be offered every day by an expert cook coming directly from the island for the occasion.
