The legendary cyclist from Navarre says that the island is one of his favourite places to train and presents Ibiza as a top sports destination.

Induráin has recognised Ibiza as one of the favourite holiday destinations he will be visiting this year. And not just for its beaches, its opportunities for relaxation, its sunsets or its exquisite cuisine, but because he considers it a first class sports destination. This is how the legendary cyclist from Navarre described the island in the presentation he gave at Fitur, along with the athletes Nuria Fernández and Carlos Coloma, where special emphasis was placed on events such as the Ibiza Campagnolo Cycle Tour, la Cursa del Patrimoni, the Ibiza Mountain Bike Tour, the Ruta de la Sal, the Ibiza Marathon and the Trail of Nations.

Induráin talked to the audience who came to see these athletes in the flesh about their experience in the Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza in which the champion assured that he had “competed and enjoyed cycling with friends” thanks to the mixture of “good weather and the toughness of some ascents”. The 17th celebration of this event will take place from 12th to 13th October 2019 and registrations will open shortly on the website www.ibizabtt.com.

Before that, the Ibiza Mountain Bike Tour will take place, which in 2019 will be celebrating its 19th anniversary. Mountain biker Carlos Coloma was eager to participate again after having discovered the island with his family. This event will take place on 19th, 20th and 21st April, in 3 stages, in a unique and incomparable natural setting, covering 230 kilometres and an accumulated gradient of over 5,850 metres.

Getting off her bicycle, the cyclist Nuria Fernández described her experience in the Cursa del Patrimoni, a race that takes place in the centre of the city of Ibiza and that the athlete described as “a magical experience” that allowed her to “get to know the other friendly, sporting, daytime Ibiza”. This race will take place on 7th December 2019 in Ibiza and covers a distance of 10 kilometres starting from Paseo Juan Carlos I. Registrations can be made on the website www.elitechip.net.

And this year, sailing enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the Ruta de la Sal 2019, a high-level Mediterranean regatta for sailing cruise ships that celebrates its 32nd anniversary this year and will take place on Thursday 18th April with departures from CM Port Ginesta in its Barcelona version, CV Port d’Andratx in its Mallorca version and RCN Denia in its Denia version, covering a distance of 140, 120 and 103 nautical miles respectively. Registrations are still open at www.larutadelasal.com.

A few days before that, on 6th April, the Ibiza Marathon ‘Run and Feel’ will have been held. Both in its full 42 kilometre version and in the 12K version, this is the most popular sporting event on the island, and this year, as a new feature, it includes a 42K relay, a relay marathon in which each member of the participating couple will complete a total of 21 kilometres with the changeover taking place in the iconic town of Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera. Don’t miss the opportunity of being one of the thousands of runners who will be celebrating this outstanding athletics event finishing at the beach of Santa Eulària des Riu at sunset.

Finally, special mention was made of the fifth 3-day Ibiza Trail – Ultra Ibiza event, which will take place from 30th November to 2nd December and which, for the first time, makes a clear commitment to the equality and visibility of women in sport as one of the educational and media objectives, providing a free nursery during the events, giving the same gifts and prizes in both categories and giving women a 9-minute start over men, with a single podium for the first 3 athletes to arrive. In this way, the intention is to encourage the access and advancement of women in sport, promoting their sporting and social integration and recognition and making it possible for them to reconcile their family life with their personal and professional development.
