Every year, on the occasion of the patron saint festivities of Santa Eulària des Riu, the church of Puig de Missa becomes the setting for a unique Crafts Fair with a display of products and traditions that have shaped the history of Ibiza over the centuries.
The event took place on Sunday 17 February with the contribution of 60 craftspeople, organic producers and organisations who, in collaboration with representatives of the sector from Majorca, offered first-hand demonstrations of the work of specialists in wood, clay, leather and musical instruments. This event also served to publicise the work of non-profit organisations on the island, cultural groups that promote the recovery of Ibizan traditions, organic producers and even a representation of the Santa Eulària Agricultural Cooperative.
This Puig de Missa Fair was a feast for the senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and, of course, taste, thanks to a major tasting and sale of Ibiza culinary products, complemented by an exhibition of breeds native to the Pityusic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera, including the ca eivissenc (the Ibizan Hound), a place for practicing tir amb bassetja (sling shooting) and an exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles in the street leading up to the church.
At the same time, the groups Es Mals Esperits and Sa Colla des Broll were responsible for providing entertainment, with parades and dances, at an event in which many people were able to discover for the first time traditions and customs which, although remote, are not as old as some may think.
