Ibiza airport continues to record increases in passenger arrivals after receiving a total of 172,848 travellers in January, 5.2% more than in the same month last year, when the figure did not exceed 164,320 users, according to AENA.
In the first month of the year, the Ibizan terminal handled a total of 2,317 operations (including landings and take-offs), increasing domestic flights by 8.5% to 1,999, and transporting 161,105 people on domestic flights and 11,067 on international flights. After Spain, the main countries of origin were Holland and the United Kingdom, with a good figure from the German market, which increased by 728 passengers compared to 2018 thanks to the new route connecting the island with Dusseldorf.
Despite these high figures, Ibiza airport still intends to welcome passengers in the best possible conditions. Therefore, this year Aena plans to invest 25 million Euro in the island terminal, which will allow a 33 percent expansion of the general aviation platform, to provide greater capacity to private and executive aviation aircraft. In addition, the surfacing of the aircraft-use area will be renewed, both in the taxiing areas and on the runway.
The summer forecast is to maintain the levels of previous years, although the scheduling figures of the companies are not yet known. In 2018, Ibiza airport broke its user record with more than eight million passengers.
