Following the success of the Feria del Gerret in Santa Eulària des Riu, on 2 March, the quality seal of Ibizan fish, “Peix Nostrum”, is preparing for the second of the festivals organised by the island’s fishing communities which are held from March to October, and which highlight the local produce fished from Ibizan waters, renowned for its amazing quality at affordable prices: the Cuttlefish Gastronomic Festival.
As with previous editions, visitors to the event can enjoy the star of the show, in this case, the cuttlefish, cooked in a number of different ways ranging from traditional casseroles made with the closely guarded recipes of local fishermen to innovative ways of tasting this particular delicacy, with presentations and textures worthy of the most prestigious chef, but at easily affordable prices.
However, it is not all about food, or at least not at this type of festival, which also includes family activities, concerts and exhibitions featuring fishing activities and the tools used at sea, together with a whole host of events which make any visit to this type of festivity a great opportunity to discover a world that is off the beaten track of the typical tourist routes.
This special date will also be celebrated with exceptional promotions for cuttlefish, which is currently in season, available throughout the week in local markets and hypermarkets, with recipes, information leaflets, and best of all, important discounts on the fish counter so there is no excuse for not trying this exquisite product.
The Cuttlefish Food Festival held on 23 March in Sant Joan will be followed by the Lobster Festival on 13 April in Sant Antoni, the Fishermen’s Rice Contest on 20 April in Ibiza, the Red Mullet and autumn seasonal fish Festival on 5 October in Ibiza, and culminating with the Squid Festival on 26 October in Sant Carles.
