On 19 March Sant Josep de sa Talaia will be celebrating the feast of its patron saint with one enormous party for this village in the western side of this island of Ibiza.
As is the custom with this type of festivity, there will be a formal religious part in the morning with a sung High Mass at midday featuring the Sant Josep Choir followed by a public procession and an official reception serving “wine of honour” featuring traditional Ibizan dancing. At night, José Boto will perform a monologue “Me lo contaron ayer” (I heard it yesterday) and a concert featuring Pin Up Sound who will provide the soundtrack for the night’s entertainment.
However, the events commemorating the patron saint of this Ibizan village are not just confined to the saint’s feast day. The festival programme includes several other highlights such as a t-shirt printing workshop for children aged 3 to 6 years, held in the Sant Josep library, or inauguration of the exhibition “Escudellam, menjar de tot día” at the Can Jeroni Gallery, open until 31 March. These events will take place on Friday 15 March.
In the evening of Saturday 16 March, the village will warm up for its big day with a torrada de sobrasada, the typical Ibizan gastronomic treat at six o´clock, enjoyed to the tune of music from the Albert Oliva band, Musicaires Swing band, Sequoia Tree and Reveren2. At 8 pm the festivities will commence with the official proclamation to be followed by concerts from Ses Sopris and Dani Nello, the wild saxophonists, and subsequently a concert by Petit Cor, who, with a performance entitled “La Veu Callada”, will dedicate their programme to women composers throughout history. This event will be held at Can Jeroni, and entrance is free, until seating capacity is reached.
Another important date is 23 March, with a day trip planned to start at 9:30, meeting in front of the Es Cubells public car park. Anyone wishing to sign up for this event should do so by calling the Sant Josep municipal swimming pool: 971 80 15 04. In the evening, it is back to the 60s for the village, with the Sant Josep Flower Power and a number of performances around the village from different groups, with a starry line-up featuring DJ Javi Box, Pharma and Willy the Poor Boys in the main square.
So there will be a host of activities for all the family and something to suit every taste, with details of all the events here and which we thoroughly recommend if you are lucky enough to be on holiday in Ibiza this month.
