Ibiza is much more than just a holiday place, it is a style, a way of life and a philosophy that attracts people from all over the world to settle on this island paradise. An intrinsic part of this lifestyle are its historical street markets, places full of tradition where you can enjoy a day of shopping for all imaginable kinds of items. During the summer season, there are numerous weekly markets on the island with second-hand goods, craft fashion, costume jewellery and organic food.
The best known markets are undoubtedly those of Las Dalias and Es Canar. The first, located in Sant Carles de Peralta, with a unique atmosphere, is one of the oldest, as this season it turns 65, and it offers real treasures. Among its stalls, you can find authentic works of art, fashion, decoration and accessories, as well as street food, restaurants, concerts and children’s activities in an area carefully selected to maintain its almost magical atmosphere. This market is held all year round on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., although its opening times are extended during the summer months to include Monday and Tuesday nights, as well as Sunday nights in August.
The Es Canar market, in Santa Eulària des Riu, takes place every Wednesday from from 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. and is also one of the oldest on the island. Located right next to the beach of the same name, it is an authentic bazaar for all kinds of curiosities, as well as crafts, fashion and decoration. The perfect place for those who want to find a curiosity, gift or souvenir to take home with them or simply enjoy the music and the casual atmosphere, as this market still retains the sixties atmosphere full of colour and family activities.
On the Sant Antoni de Portmany promenade and in Figueretas, in Ibiza, you can also find craft stalls every evening until midnight. Also in Santa Eulària des Riu, in Passeig de s’Alamera, and in the port of Ibiza there are several stalls open all day long for those who simply want to browse and for lovers of craft products.
Every Saturday of the year in Sant Jordi de ses Salines there is a flea market for second-hand goods, including all kinds of antiques such as vinyl records, CDs, books, furniture and clothing; Many of these stalls are moved to Cala Llenya market on Sundays. A little further away, on the same day, in Sant Joan de Labritja, there is a very traditional market with crafts, food and live concerts to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of this charming village. Despite the few stalls that are set up at this site, the best thing about the place is its authentic Ibizan atmosphere where it seems that time has stood still.
There are also Saturday late afternoon markets in Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, in the centre of the island, a great excuse to spend the evening in this quaint village, a place that should not fail to appear in the photos of any trip to the island.
There are also numerous beaches where markets are held, especially fashion markets, where you can find exclusive items of beachwear and Moda Adlib; for example, in the port of Sant Miguel de Balansat every Thursday or in Benirrás on Fridays and Sundays from from 12 midday to 11pm. In Cala Llonga there are also market stalls on Sunday afternoons while in Playa d’en Bossa the market opens every Friday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Finally, there is the Forada market in Sa Forada, a fantastic opportunity to try typical and organic products. This market opens every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm.
