There are various natural areas on the island of Ibiza but the most popular is Ses Salines. No one misses the white sand and crystal clear waters of its beach, but few venture to discover the salt flats, the walks between the ponds or the sunsets, represented in the Ses Salines Interpretation Centre, located in the old presbytery of San Francesc de s’Estany.
Fewer still know its most private area, the one with the most difficult access, Es Freus, which comprises several islands located between Ibiza and Formentera, including s’Espalmador. The focal point of the more than 15,000 hectares covered by this protected natural area is the interpretation centre, which offers numerous activities to familiarise visitors with its fauna, flora and history. Every Saturday there are guided tours which can be booked by calling (+34) 971 30 14 60 ext. 3, but there is also a programme of activities listing all the events you can attend.
Due to the fragility of the ecosystem there are certain restrictions to the activities that can be carried out in this area and it is important to be especially respectful of its environment. One of the most eagerly awaited attractions is the visit of the flamingos, which stop on the island on their way to Africa.
