Italian born and Ibizan by temperament, Patrizia Longarini has been bringing art to the people of Ibiza and tourists through her own gallery P|Art Ibiza. Located at Ca Na Negreta, P|Art Ibiza has become a meeting place where over 90 artists from all over the world have showcased their works.
According to Longarini, “our gallery started by way of a challenge to see how far we could go and today we can say that we have brought some really prominent international artists who have exhibited their works for the first time in Ibiza”. In this regard, Patrizia underlines the importance of the fact that “the Ibizan people are keen to learn everything they can about what is going on beyond the confines of the island”.
During these five years, P|Art Ibiza has gained a reputation for its commitment to showing the island’s public a new artistic and international culture, and for making it an attractive venue for the most important artists on the world artistic scene. “Now we are seeing how people come and are increasingly interested in the art works, they appreciate art much more and are more enquiring” according to the gallery owner.
In this regard, Patrizia points out that “we are very proud to be able to bring so many special artists to Ibiza, given the extremely high calibre of their work at both national and international levels” and she adds that “we are currently trying to bring a Chinese photographer, Liu Bolin, who hides himself within his work, conveying the message that we ourselves are the work of art.” A further example of the fact that, through its work and efforts, this gallery continues with every year that passes, its aim of discovering and exhibiting the same kind of art that can be viewed in major world cities.
Alongside her love and dedication to art and culture in Ibiza, Longarini has always felt some responsibility towards Ibizan NGOs, with whom she has worked from the beginning. “Although we know that there are many non-profit associations needing help, we are always assessing what is needed most, and promoting new caring initiatives” concludes Longarini. Proof of this is the fact that there are many donations and projects supported by the gallery, such as charity auctions for APNEEF exhibitions in aid of cancer care, supporting the Elena Torres Association, events designed to collect food for the island’s needy, finding homes for Ibizan hounds, or caring for the environment and protecting the Mediterranean sea, among other projects.
A creative person who also sends a message of hope and encouragement to the people and to the commercial establishments in Ibiza. “I believe that between all of us, galleries, restaurants, hotels and the people who live here all year round, we could work to create synergies, to encourage the island’s artistic movement, and to open up and take more notice of what is going on out there, coming from outside “.
