Ibiza turns white in the winter during January and February, but not with snow; with almond blossoms. This natural phenomenon covers several parts of the island in a white mantle, offering a unique opportunity to take a walk and admire the spectacle.
The Pla de Corona, the area of Benimussa or almost any inland area of the island are ideal spots to begin an outing that has become an institution for both locals and tourists. The blooming almond trees give rise to an authentic pilgrimage to the areas where they grow most densely, in order to admire the views of the green fields covered with a blanket of pinkish-white blossom.
Having a picnic, taking a walk to Santa Agnès de Corona, where you can enjoy a meal based on excellent meat or potato omelette in the local restaurants, or taking part in the guided tours organised during the first few months of the year are some of the best ways of getting to know the white island.
Winter in Ibiza is mild, and outdoor activities are a great way for the whole family to relax and enjoy themselves.
The Pla de Corona also offers a cycle route of approximately 11 kilometres across the plain, open to everyone.
Visiting this area of Ibiza’s countryside, dotted with traditional buildings and native crops, is a marvellous way of getting to know the interior of the island at its peak.
On this trip, you can also admire one of the island’s most breathtaking views, the cliff known as Les Portes del Cel (The Gates of Heaven) or Sa Penya Esbarrada, from where you can see the islets of Ses Margalides, where you may even see dolphins crossing the horizon in winter.
