The island of Ibiza is famous worldwide for its hippy spirit that continues to endure in its hidden coves, country paths or craft markets.
Ibiza boasts various markets in almost every district, each with its own identity, with some known mainly for their foods and cuisine, while others display a unique range of art works and pieces created by the artisans on their different stalls.
The iconic market of Las Dalias
The Las Dalias market is the best known of all the markets on the island with over 200 stalls manned by artisans and craftsmen and women of different nationalities. Close by the village of San Carles de Peralta, Las Dalias has always sought to showcase the work of the island’s artists and this is why an area is set aside known as the “artists’ corner”, where painters, sculptors, writers, musicians and many more can display their works and talents. This hippy market also boasts food trucks serving every kind of cuisine, not to mention stands selling the island’s local produce. Las Dalias opens every Saturday from 10 am to 8pm all year round and during the summer there is also a Night Market on Sundays, Thursdays and Tuesdays from 7 pm to 12.30 pm. In addition, every Wednesday the Namaste fiesta is held, a ceremony full of colour, music, peace and love.
Ceramics, star of the Sant Rafel Market
The charming village of Sant Rafel holds its market every Thursday evening from 7.30 pm onwards, selling crafts and in particular, traditional and contemporary style ceramics, although there is still room for other crafts such as jewellery, clothing, accessories and natural cosmetics.
Similarly, this craft market, which starts in June and remains open until September, also has stalls selling a wide range of produce from the Ibizan countryside. Popular dances, live music or performances from various artists can be enjoyed in this market which is held in the carpark next to the Social Centre.
The Forada Market and its produce from the land
In a stretch of open land in the little village of Forada, facing the Can Tixedó restaurant, a craft market is held every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, showcasing local Ibizan gastronomy.
Fruit and vegetables, as well as homemade cakes and desserts, honey, oil or Ibizan herbs are sold on the market stalls with an extensive section devoted to organic products and natural cosmetics. The Forada market opens all year round and it is without doubt one of the most alternative and authentic markets in Ibiza.
