Four Ibizan beaches where you can walk your dog all year round

For many years now household pets have been considered as just one more member of the family and in fact, the new animal welfare law confirms our status as a pet friendly society. Fortunately, the island of Ibiza has set aside various areas where our pets can enjoy the beach as much as we do.

In winter dogs can be walked on Ibiza’s beaches from 1 November to just before Easter. In the summer some parts of the coast have been set aside and can be accessed with dogs all year round. There are two in the city of Ibiza and two in the municipal district of Santa Eulària des Riu.

  • One of these beaches is in Es Viver, in the city of Ibiza lying between the streets Quartó de Balançat and Quartó de Santa Eulària des Riu. This dog friendly beach is 350 metres long and some basic rules apply to walking your pet there, such as picking up excrement, keeping your dog under control, and ensuring that your pet’s health card is up to date with all their vaccinations, and any dogs categorised as potentially dangerous must be kept on a leash and muzzled.
  • Another beach for dogs in the same town is in the Ses Figueres/Talamanca neighbourhood which has a stretch of beach between the street Carrer de Benirrás and the outskirts of the municipal district of Ibiza. Access to this zone also means abiding by the set of regulations in place, such as keeping your dog on a leash or ensuring that its documentation is up to date. These rules are displayed on placards on both these beaches in Ibiza city, and there are also benches as well where you can sit and have a rest.
  • Meanwhile, des Riu beach in Santa Eulària allows dogs to roam 365 days of the year. It is a small beach in the south of the municipality, and at just 15 metres in length it is made up of coarse sand and rocks. It is a section of land that runs along the final 10 metres of the right bank of the river estuary along with a small stretch of the coastline.
  • Finally, also in Santa Eulária but this time in the northeast, there is another dog friendly beach at Es Faralló, which is close by Puig de s’Eglésia Vella with 35 metres of coarse sand and rocks. During the summer months this beach has no time restrictions, however like all the other areas mentioned, there are rules in place which must be observed so that dogs can enjoy these areas without incident.

Along with these beaches there are many other places on the island that are suitable for exercising your dog such as canine parks and walks. In addition, Ibiza also boasts a wealth of pet friendly accommodation so that you can bring your four-legged friends on holiday with you.
