Medieval minstrels dancing, magical serpents, dramatized tours, live performances, falconry, fire eaters, plenty of craft and food stalls, this is what the Ibiza Medieval Fair is all about. The walled town of Dalt Vila, the La Marina neighbourhood and the port of Ibiza have a festive air and the streets buzz with life during the Ibiza Medieval Fair, which is held every year in the second weekend of May, this year from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th May, when for a few days the town turns back the time and relives the Medieval Era.
A huge fiesta, this year it will also be commemorating the UNESCO Declaration as a World Heritage Site of four of Ibiza’s natural and cultural phenomena, one of which is Dalt Vila, the ancient walled town that will host the festivities. In memory of the city’s past, the culture and essence of the island will be highlighted as a place of refuge over the centuries for the likes of Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs. Additionally, over the whole weekend, over 150,00 visitors are expected to come and enjoy the entertainments and activities. Aside from the events there will be numerous craft stalls from different Spanish cities as well as traditional Ibizan products on sale selling their wares in Dalt Vila.
There will be a total of 200 stalls showcasing their products inviting visitors to lose themselves among the little cobbled streets of the old town, mixing the magic and fun of the Ibiza Medieval Fair with the history of the ancient walls that tell the story of Ibiza and its people. To illustrate this historic past, there will be music concerts, Arabian dance, medieval theatre and folklore exhibitions among the cultural entertainments on offer.
