The Crash Plan Against Unauthorised Holiday Businesses on the Island of Ibiza launched by the regional government (Consell Insular d’Eivissa) already proved its worth during the first half of the 2025 season, with an increase in controls and re-sources devoted to inspecting and fining irregular activities in accommodation and passenger transport.
One of the greatest achievements so far is the collaboration with the main holiday rental platforms to eliminate adverts for illegal accommodation. Thanks to this im-portant partnership, Booking has deleted all adverts of accommodations that lacked the required business permit, while Airbnb has so far cut down by 76% its irregular accommodations, which translates into approximately 2,000 adverts of illegal lets, that is a total of 8,000 beds less. In parallel, Airbnb has begun an educational cam-paign aimed at the host community on the island of Ibiza to inform them of the need to include their registration number as proof of the permit for the holiday rental busi-ness if they want to keep on advertising their holiday rentals on the platform.
More inspectors and fines against illegal taxis
With a total €22M to invest over three years, funded by the Sustainable Tourism Tax, the Crash Plan Against Unauthorised Holiday Businesses will also be devoted to fight against illegal passenger transport. Mid July, the Board for Unauthorised Holiday Businesses appreciated the first results obtained from the detection and seizure of illegal taxis at Ibiza airport, with a reduction of up to 75% of the number of licence plates suspected of carrying passengers illegally, according to the Local Police of Sant Josep.
Among the actions taken by the highest authority on the island, it is worth highlight-ing the addition of 6 new inspectors and 4 transport agents and the fine of €15,000 to retrieve impounded vehicles used to carry passengers illegally. The actions taken against illegal taxi drivers are in collaboration with AENA, following a protocol that specifies the area of action of each force once the offenders have been identified, from transport inspectors working for the regional government (Consell d’Eivissa) to AE-NA’s private security and, when necessary, the Civil Guards or Local Police of Sant Josep.
Putting a stop to private boat charters in Ibiza
As part of the Crash Plan Against Unauthorised Holiday Businesses on the island of Ibiza, the Consell d’Eivissa has forbidden the use of moorings granted for private use at ports managed by regional authorities -Santa Eulària and Sant Antoni- to gain a profit, including the charter of private boats. This countermeasure follows the new state regulation that came into effect in August authorising this type of rentals for three months a year, as in the end the regulation will not apply to the ports of the Bal-earic Islands who are exempted by Royal-Decree Law. With this action, the Consell stops the new regulation from impacting its own tourism contention policies, which have so far eliminated about 17,000 illegal charters in a year.
