During the first half of 2025, Ibiza hosted five sporting events, all of them declared a tour-ist attraction, with a huge media impact on the promotion of Ibiza as holiday destination. These national and international competitions have largely contributed to taking the sea-sonality out of tourism and positioning Ibiza as a place of reference for sports travel.
These competitions do not only bring in thousands of participants from different countries and their travelling companions, but also widely spread the Ibiza tourism brand with a final return on investment (ROI) of more than €9M, which shows the role played by sports in the tourism promotion strategy for this destination in national and international mar-kets.
Two sporting events with the greatest impact
The Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon and the Vuelta Ibiza MTB Siroko by Shimano, held in the first half of the year and officially declared a tourist attraction, have once again proved to be the most successful events in terms of participation and media presence. The first was on 12th April and turned out to be the biggest race of the first half of the year, with over 6,000 runners, 70% of them international, and keeps growing every year. The ROI of this event for the Ibiza tourism brand based on its media presence is estimated at €2,755,651.
On the other hand, the Vuelta Ibiza MTB Siroko by Shimano (18th-20th April) was the sporting event with the largest media impact during the first half of 2025 with an ROI of €4,608,741. This mountain bike race, which welcomed about 1,000 cyclists in its 24th edition, has become one of the most important MTB races in Spain.
Promotion for sailing holidays
The Ruta de la Sal Rumbo Ibiza regatta (17th-19th April) is known as the offshore race with greatest participation in Spain and therefore makes a big appearance in general and specialised media. This year, its media presence has meant an ROI of €1,457,701 for the Ibiza brand. In its 37th edition, the regatta hosted a total 145 boats, 26% of them international, which sailed from Castelldefels (Barcelona) and Denia (Alicante) towards Sant Antoni de Portmany harbour.
Athletics, the star of the off-season
As well as the already mentioned Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, the first half of the year witnessed another two athletics events officially declared tourist attractions, which high-lighted the key role of this sport in promoting Ibiza in the off-season. The event that kicked off the sporting calendar this year was the 10K Ibiza Platja d’en Bossa race organ-ised by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) included in the national calendar and classified as an international race. This edition, held on 9th February, welcomed about 800 national and international runners and its media presence produced an ROI of €573,988 for the Ibiza brand.
Also, the Ibiza Half Marathon produced a financial impact for the Ibiza brand in terms of visibility with an estimated value of €233,292. The event, held on 5th April, counted 3,640 runners from mostly Spain, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Ireland and the Nether-lands.
