You can’t talk about spring in Ibiza without mentioning food. Within the framework of Ibiza Sabor, the island holds numerous special events to enjoy with the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, sight and, above all, taste and smell.
Under the title “Cooking the landscape: inheritance and innovation”, the Island Council Consell d’Eivissa and the island federation of small and medium-sized enterprises (PIMEEF), have organised a series of events to take place between 5 April and 31 May in restaurants all over the island, including a workshop on Ibizan herb liquor and a café caleta tasting session.
The schedule of events also includes the Mediterranean Gastronomy Forum, with the participation of several Michelin-starred restaurants: Arzak, Disfrutar, Les Cols, Annua and Finca de Elche, together with Paco Torreblanca, one of the world’s leading pastry chefs. Along with this line-up, the Forum will be attended by chefs from Majorca, Menorca and Formentera, as well as Ibiza, representing both traditional cuisine, as well as the most innovative culinary delights. But most importantly, all the dishes will be prepared using local island products.
The third major Ibiza Sabor event will be the 2nd Traditional Ibiza Cuisine Workshop, to be held on 20 April at the Can Muson estate in Santa Eulària, with two Easter dishes as the stars: cuinat (vegetable stew) and flaó (cheesecake). This workshop will be free of charge, with a maximum of 25 people per group, and includes bus transport from the city of Ibiza. To participate it is essential to make a reservation at ibizasabor@gmail.com.
Meanwhile, this month the Consell Insular and the Fishermen’s Guilds of Ibiza have presented a new label to identify Ibizan common lobster and some of Ibiza’s lesser known fish. This label bears the logos of “Sabors d’Eivissa” and “Peix Nostrum”, indicative of the fish marketed through the guilds of Ibiza. Diners can therefore request the label in order to take it with them as a guarantee that the product they have consumed is fresh fish from the island of Ibiza.
