Ibiza is passionate about music. Residents and tourists alike are able to enjoy every style and genre, a fact reflected in the island’s emerging musical culture. Any village fiesta will include interesting sounds, complementing the celebrations with the music on offer. Live concerts with rock, blues, pop, folk and punk music with a wide range of styles that ensure no musical genre is left out. Many of these groups and singers have carved out their careers without ever leaving Ibiza, producing their own albums and performing on local stages, but there are others too who have ventured their luck beyond the island’s shores.
Let’s take a look at some of biggest stars on the Ibizan music scene.
Ressonadors: one of Ibiza’s most popular groups and the number of fans at their concerts continues to grow. The group comprises musicians from the Pitiusa Islands who got together to recover the songs of the Ibizan group UC giving them a new take and a more modern sound. They frequently perform at local village festivals on the island on important dates such as the Festas de la Terra on 7th August, when they celebrated ten years of performing on the Ibizan stage.
Projecte Mut: with two of the main members and driving force behind Ressonadors, David Serra and Joan Barbé, this band took the poems of Ibizan poets and adapted them to create their own songs, with six albums under their belts and concerts all over Spain, particularly in Catalonia. In February this year, they took their farewells for an indefinite rest.
Quin Delibat: is a Pop Rock band that is Ibizan through and through, whose debut on the island in 2011 was marked by the release of their first album which led to over seventy concerts in and around the Pitiusas, Majorca and Barcelona. They recently played at the Hotel Santos in Ibiza, and at Platja d’en Bossa, sharing the stage with Carlos Sadness.
Billy Flamingos: is one of the most innovative rock bands on the island. They first performed in 2017 tying in with release of their first album bearing their name which rapidly caught the attention of all the Balearic Islands, following their performances at various festivals and events in Ibiza and Majorca.
Morning Drivers: is a group of five young Ibizans who compose their own rock and indie-style songs and who have been playing since 2013. A group of friends whose deepest roots are reflected in their music which is also infused with their earlier musical influences.
Those mentioned are just a taste of the island’s most famous musical groups, but there are plenty more such as Iván Domenech, who also plays in bands such as Los Cañallas del Guateque, along with Chris Martos, Marc Cuevas and Marcos Llunas.
