Different plans that will delight children and adults alike

We would like to give you a few ideas with our list of plans for a family outing which will guarantee fun for all the family, whatever their age.

Making plans for your holiday or the weekend is always an exciting and fun pastime. However, sometimes keeping the whole family happy is no easy task, particularly when it is a question of everyone’s precious free time. Luckily, Ibiza is one of the most versatile islands in the world, where you can find all kinds of activities which adapt to every age of all family members.

We would like to give you a few ideas with our list of plans for a family outing which will guarantee fun for all the family, whatever their age.

Can Marçà cave

In the north of the island, in Port de Sant Miquel de Balansat, the Can Marçà cave is one of Ibiza’s main tourist attractions. A real quirk of nature, where you can discover the different formations, lakes, stalactites and stalagmites, surrounded by lights, sound and entertained with tales of pirates and smugglers.

An opportunity for older family members to discover part of Ibiza’s history, and explore the natural features of the island rock formations, this trip is also the perfect outing for younger children, as they will enjoy searching for the secret marks left by pirates and smugglers, checking out the different rock formations, and they will be amazed and delighted by the son et lumiere shows.

CREM – Aquarium Cap Blanc

In Sant Antoni de Portmany, the Marine Species Recovery Centre (CREM) has a small but welcoming aquarium which contains Mediterranean species. The centre carries out environmental education activities, along with research projects with several universities, and organises volunteering programmes, as well as working to recover diverse Ibizan species.

This natural cave was known in the past as “Cova de Ses Llagostes” as it used to be used as a tank for keeping these big shellfish, and young and old alike will thoroughly enjoy the anecdotes and stories about caring for the loggerhead sea turtles, or the giant lobsters donated by an Ibizan restaurant, or learning how hermit crabs move to a new shell, and many other stories.

Stroll around Santa Eulària des Riu

Santa Eulària des Riu offers several options for peaceful and cultural trips that will cater to everyone. From a walk along the Passeig de S’Alamera, where the children will love the Ibizan hound sculptures created by the artist Andreu Moreno; to paddling in the river that runs through part of the town.

Both these options will have surprises for all the family. First of all you may come across another little sculpture, in this case depicting a mischievous and greedy sprite known as a “fameliar” which is part of the fantastical mythology of traditional Ibiza. Or if you walk along the river you can enjoy birdwatching, with resident species sometimes proving to be just as hungry as the mythological creatures if you are wandering along with food in your hands.
