Ibiza is gearing up again this year for the Ibiza Jazz Festival, the biggest on the island, to be held from 3rd to 7th September in the incredible setting of Ibiza’s old walled town.
The first two days of this 31st edition of the event will be free, while entries to the remaining concerts can be purchased at a fixed price of 12 euros online through the Ibiza Town Hall website, at the Can Ventosa Theatre, or from the box office set up for this purpose at Baluarte de Santa Llúcia.
Over four days of live concerts, jazz lovers will be able to enjoy different styles with performances by renowned artists such as Martirio and Domínguez, with the duo performing on 6th September, and the Italian pianist Steffano Bollani, who promises to surprise on the final day of the festival.
The first two concerts will be held in Ibiza town centre in the paseo Vara de Rey. The festival will kick off on 3rd Sept at 9.30 pm with a performance by Natural Focus, a rock and electronic- influenced jazz duo. On Sept 4th, the second day of the festival will feature the Big Band Ciudad de Ibiza who will begin their concert at 9 pm in Plaza Sotamurada. They will be followed at 10 pm by the pianist José Carra Trío.
After 5th Sept, the concerts move to the Baluarte de Santa Llúcia. The first performance will be the singer Miryam Latrece and her band, who will perform an elegant set featuring r’nb and jazz, beginning at 9 pm. The next performance will be at 10.30 pm, and will showcase the talents of Eivissa Jazz Experience, a sextet led by Abe Rábade.
On 6th September it will be Kiko Berenguer,’s turn to perform, an explosive and charismatic saxophonist who explores a number of different styles ranging from flamenco to jazz. This will be followed at 10.30 pm by one of the main acts at the festival, the singer Martirio will be paired with Chano Domínguez, forming a duo that promises to wow their audience. They will be paying homage to the Cuban singer/song writer Ignacio Jacinto, better known as Bola de Nieve.
The final day of the festival will be presented in the form of a musical journey to Italy, featuring Claudio Jr De Rosa Quartet, winners of the Getxo jazz Festival. The 31st edition of this festival will close with a concert at 10 .30 pm by the Italian pianist Stefano Boliani, one of the best known names in European jazz, with his very personal take on music, when he will demonstrate just why his concerts are considered to be a different experience.
In addition, this year, a photographic exhibition by the journalist Ferran Pereyra will also be included as part of the festival to be held in the Refectory room in the cloisters of the Ibiza Town Council.
The Ibiza Jazz Festival was first held in 1989 and over time it has become one of the most important dates for jazz in Spain. The aim is to become a benchmark and gain in prestige and importance with every year that passes, thanks to a balanced and varied agenda which covers all the musical profiles and styles such as soul, swing, and jazz fusion or blues.
